Weekend Reading

Hi Friend,

We hope you and your loved ones are well. These are challenging times—with communities facing threats to their rights in the U.S. and humanitarian crises around the world. As a Quaker organization, AFSC works around the world to build lasting peace, welcome migrants with dignity, and create communities where all people can thrive. Thank you for standing with us. While the path ahead is difficult, we are grateful to work alongside you as we keep pushing forward for justice.

STRONGER WITH IMMIGRANTS

Defending communities against ICE in New Jersey [link removed]

As ICE raids escalate across the U.S., individuals and organizations are taking a stand for immigrant rights. In New Jersey, AFSC is equipping schools, health care facilities, service providers, and others with vital information to protect community members. AFSC’s Itzel Hernandez says, “I tell providers, ‘We want to ensure you can keep caring for every child that comes into your classroom, every patient that walks through your doors, no matter where they're from.’”

TAKE ACTION

Tell Congress: Demand lifesaving aid for Gaza [link removed]

Every day, more Palestinians in Gaza are killed by Israeli bombings and shootings, starvation, and disease. Yet the U.S. keeps sending weapons to Israel and offering political support despite all the suffering. Congress must act now to end the genocide in Gaza. Urge elected officials to stop sending weapons to Israel. Tell them to demand that Israel allow aid into Gaza immediately to save lives.

FROM OUR ARCHIVES

Sowing seeds of justice [link removed]
By Rick Wilson

In the wake of World War I, Quakers and the newly formed AFSC began providing food for children in danger of starvation in war-torn Europe. In the following years, they would feed hundreds of thousands of children in Germany, Austria, Poland, and Russia. Although they had no way of knowing it, their efforts would grow into a century-long commitment to food justice that continues to this day. Here’s a look back at our history.

Special thanks to our monthly donors, our Partners for Peace, for their ongoing support to make all our work possible.
