America’s founding wasn’t perfect, but it was a promise of where we could go as a nation. Let us keep fighting to fulfill it.

John,

Happy Fourth of July from all of us at No Labels.

Today marks the anniversary of America’s founding, when a small group of patriots from all 13 colonies declared the nation’s independence and set out to build a government based not on royal bloodlines or tyranny, but on the rights and responsibilities of a free people.

That promise has never been easy to fulfill. From the war to end slavery and racial discrimination, to the battle for women’s suffrage, the creation of a more perfect union has been long and often arduous. And as we mark America’s 249th birthday, when partisanship is high and trust is low, it can feel like the foundational ties that bind us are coming apart.

But if you look in the right places, you will find them.

Last week, No Labels hosted a bicameral Make Congress Work meeting that brought together more than 30 Democrats and Republicans from both chambers of Congress. These leaders came not to score points or posture for the cameras, but to have a serious conversation about solving real problems, from how we care for our veterans to how we prepare for the future of artificial intelligence.

That is the spirit we celebrate today. Not just the boldness of 1776, but the belief that this country is worth fighting for, and that the only way forward is together, not as Republicans, Democrats, and Independents, but as Americans.

We hope you and your loved ones have a joyful, safe, and meaningful Independence Day.
