We’ve seen it so many times before: Republican politicians claiming that they — and they alone — get to define what freedom means.
So today, on this Independence Day, I wanted to take a moment to talk about freedom. And most importantly, what Montana Democrats are doing to defend our freedoms from Donald Trump and his Montana Republican allies.
John, Republicans love to push the idea that they are the party of freedom. That they’re focused on individual rights, while Democrats just want the government to get in the way of everything. But that couldn’t be further from the truth.
Montana Democrats are focused on strengthening freedom across the state. The freedom to buy an affordable home. The freedom to find a good-paying job and support your family. The freedom to live your life free from discrimination. The freedom to make your own health care decisions without the government getting in the way.
On the other hand, Republicans stand against those freedoms, John. They want you to pay more so billionaires can pay less. They want discrimination against LGBTQ+ folks to run rampant. They want to tell you what books your kids can and can’t read in the classroom. And they want to control our private health care decisions.
There’s no doubt about it: Freedom will be on the ballot in Montana next year, and we can’t afford to fall short. So if we want to defend our most fundamental rights from Donald Trump and his Republican enablers, we can’t wait a second longer to fight back.
