I’m in Delaware today, spending the Fourth with family and neighbors, and reflecting on what this day is meant to represent.
Across the country, we’re celebrating the promise of freedom. But even on this day, that promise is being actively undermined. Today, Donald Trump will be signing his one big ugly bill, a bill that hollows out Medicaid and food assistance for families, veterans, children, and seniors to reward the ultra-wealthy.
Forcing people to choose between groceries and prescriptions is not freedom.
Freedom is being able to see a doctor without going into debt. It’s time to care for our loved ones. It’s having control over our own bodies. It’s clean air, safe communities, and a government that serves regular people, not just the powerful.
Delawareans sent me to Congress to fight for that vision. And I’m committed to doing just that with the urgency this moment demands. Because in the face of such cruelty and division, the most patriotic thing we can do is to continue fighting for one another.
Thank you for reading. I’m wishing you and your loved ones a safe and Happy Fourth of July.
