I’m hoping each of you can take some time to disconnect and enjoy your friends and family today.

As I think about what today represents, I am reminded how proud I am to be an American — how proud we all should be, even in tough times..

Never forget that the United States of America is more than just whoever is sitting in the Oval Office or who occupies any seat in Congress.

America isn’t perfect. Never has been. We have always been a work in progress — the great experiment — and now is no different.

You can be proud that America never stops working for a better world for our kids and our grandkids. You can love this country for the promise it was and is for the future.

I am proud to be an American. I love this country. And that is why I get up in the morning every day and do my best to improve it.

There is only one sure way we lose the future we want, and that’s by giving up.

I am not giving up. I am not quitting. And I hope you’re with me.
