Dear John,

As World Population Day approaches on 11 July, we’re reminded how little public and political understanding there still is about the deep interconnections between population growth, nature loss, global justice and equality. At Population Matters, we’re working to change that - bringing these vital issues into the mainstream and championing real solutions.

This month’s update features a piece marking World Oceans Day with our patron Sir David Attenborough, and our new Spring magazine, packed with insights from our recent advocacy. We also share the latest UNFPA findings on reproductive rights and an article about the Seville Commitment, where more than 80 organisations - including Population Matters - called on Keir Starmer to attend.

New UN report: the real fertility crisis

The 2025 report from the United Nations Population Fund offers a snapshot of the current global landscape of sexual and reproductive health. There’s still a significant unmet need for contraception and restrictions on people exercising their reproductive rights.

A collective commitment to sustainable development

Population Matters was among the 84 signatures calling on the UK Prime Minister to attend the Sevilla Commitment conference. It was an opportunity missed for the UK to lead on real, systemic, financial reforms on debt justice, fairer tax rules and climate finance.
