Planned Parenthood Cashes in on Medicaid Money Meant for Elderly and Disabled, Report Shows
By: Emily Washburn
Abortion providers like Planned Parenthood are cashing in on Medicaid money meant for elderly and disabled Americans, a new report from the American Family Association (AFA) shows.
States receive tens of billions of dollars from the federal government every year to run Medicaid programs; state taxpayers contribute several billion more.
But according to AFA’s “Displacing the Disabled: How Medicaid funds abortion providers and leaves disabled kids waiting,” thousands of Americans and their families across forty states are languishing on waitlists for Medicaid-funded Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS).
State HCBS programs subsidize in-home care for the elderly, disabled and mentally ill. For parents like Anja and Nate Baker, they are a necessity.
The Bakers are proud parents of three boys — six-year-old Locke, four-year-old Herschel and one-year-old Fulton. Herschel suffers from cerebral palsy, epilepsy and several other conditions related to brain injury.

Don’t Forget to Pray for Persecuted Christians Around the World
By: Paul Batura
Over 200 Nigerian Christians were murdered by Islamic terrorists last month, a tragedy that seems to have slipped below the radar of most mainstream media outlets.
The horror was carried out by militants, many of whom were shouting “Allahu Akbar” as they stormed into several locations, including a church and other buildings that were housing displaced Christians.
“What I saw was truly gruesome,” said Ukuma Jonathan Angbianbee, a local parish priest in the town of Yelewata.
“People were slaughtered. Corpses were scattered everywhere.”
A farmer named Fidelis Adidi told a reporter,
“My body is weak and my heart keeps racing. I lost five of my family members.”
Radical Islamists are persecuting and killing Christians all over the world. According to Open Doors International, a ministry dedicated to tracking and training leaders to raise awareness and help the hurting, upwards of 5,000 Christians a year are killed for their faith – the vast majority in Nigeria.
The full extent of the genocide is impossible to know, though given the secrecy and remoteness of many of these attacks, we are confident it’s much higher. Without question, there is far more suffering and sacrifice than is documented.
“Christians around the world are experiencing severe persecution,” warns Dr. David Jeremiah.

US Supreme Court Clears Path to Defund Planned Parenthood
By: Nicole Hunt
In a significant victory for the pro-life movement, the United States Supreme Court ruled 6-3 in favor of South Carolina’s plan to defund Planned Parenthood, creating a pathway for other states and Congress to finally stop using taxpayer dollars to subsidize Planned Parenthood.
This decision affirms state governments, and even the federal government, have the authority to define a qualified medical provider and confirms Medicaid recipients can’t sue to block those decision.
Background
The case, Medina v. Planned Parenthood, concerns South Carolina’s decision to withhold Medicaid tax dollars from abortion providers.
As previously reported by the Daily Citizen, the case originated with an executive order South Carolina’s governor issued in 2018, which prohibited abortion clinics from participating in the state’s Medicaid program.
Planned Parenthood sued the state on behalf of Medicaid recipients, claiming they have a judicially enforceable “right” to choose which qualified medical providers Medicaid should cover, including Planned Parenthood.
The Court heard oral arguments in April.
Opinion
The majority opinion was authored by Justice Neil Gorsuch and joined by Chief Justice Roberts and Justices Thomas, Alito, Kavanaugh and Barrett.

Brazilian Mother Prosecuted for Homeschooling
By: Meredith Godwin
A Christian woman in Brazil is being prosecuted for choosing to homeschool her son.
On Wednesday, a Brazilian state court is set to hear the case of Regiane Cichelero — a mother who began homeschooling her son in 2020 when public schools closed due to COVID-19.
Cichelero continued to homeschool even after Brazilian schools, where attendance is mandatory, reopened in March 2021. She stated:
“I choose to homeschool my son because I believe this is what is best for him, and am committed to providing him with the best possible education.”
“Moreover, homeschooling ensures that I can impart our faith and values, which are so important to our family, to him on a daily basis — values that are consistently challenged and undermined in Brazil’s public school system.”
Shortly after her decision, local authorities fined Cichelero over $20,000 USD.
A judge also warned that she risked losing custody of her son if she failed to re-enroll him in public school.
Alliance Defending Freedom International (ADF) has taken up Cichelero’s case and is challenging the state’s attempt to restrict parents’ decision-making freedoms on behalf of their children.
In 2018, Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court ruled that homeschooling is not unconstitutional, but specific legislation would be required to uphold the practice.

Why Focus on the Family Believes Obergefell Must Be Struck Down
By: Glenn T. Stanton
June marks the 10th anniversary of the landmark Supreme Court decision Obergefell v. Hodges.
The case radically redefined marriage and the family by nationalizing the de-sexing of both.
That is precisely what happens when the Supreme Court required every state to accept same sex couplings.
It’s also what happens when states are required to accept these couplings as every bit valuable and important as the ageless and life-producing marital and familial union of the two essential parts of humanity in male and female.
Marriage between a man and a woman is a cross-cultural institution that existed before it was defined in human laws.
What the Court did in Obergefell was a logical impossibility. It has been hailed as a progressive victory, but the result has been terribly regressive.
There are at least four compelling reasons why Obergefell must be struck down.
First, Obergefell neutered our legal conception of what it means to be human.
If male nor female are not essential to the family – and this is precisely the defective logic this landmark decision resulted in — both lose any consequential meaning.
