Happy Independence Day! As you go about your
holiday celebration, I want to ask you for your help.
Newsflash! We’re doing two things this weekend in
New York and Maryland. Both are about making independent voters more
visible and more powerful.
In New York, we will be spending $5,000
promoting this
video on Instagram. We want 50,000 New Yorkers to
know that 3.5 million independent New Yorkers are not happy about
being shut out of voting. There is an active process underway to put
open primaries on the ballot in the Big Apple and getting 50,000 New
Yorkers excited will help support that effort. Our goal is to spend
a lot more promoting videos - this is just
to get the ball rolling.
In Maryland, we are launching a new website to
recruit supporters. We filed a lawsuit in Maryland (read Washington
Post and Baltimore
Sun coverage) to prevent the state from using tax
dollars to fund closed private primaries that 900,000 independents are
barred from, and we want to mobilize Marylanders to support the effort
by writing letters to the editor, appearing in Court, and telling
their stories of why they are independents!
We need to raise $10,000 over the next 24 hours to
launch both of these efforts, and good news…we’ve got a match! A
supporter from Minnesota and another from Florida have put up a $2,000
gift and a $3,000 gift respectively to drive this launch. If we raise
$5,000 today…we get another
$5,000.
