For my family and I, it’s about the promise that this nation made to generations of immigrants like my parents, who came here believing that America is a place where hard work, education, and community support could open doors to opportunity. It’s the idea that freedom isn’t just an abstract ideal: it means access to good jobs, quality healthcare, the right to vote, and the chance to build a better life.
That’s the promise I carry with me, and it’s why I ran for Congress. Today, too many of those freedoms are under threat – and it’s on us to safeguard the pillars of democracy and build upon the work of previous generations.
So today, I’m thinking about the families across the Commonwealth who deserve to have the same hopes that my parents had for me – as well as the policies we need to make that a reality. It takes all of us committing ourselves to and engaging with the great American experiment of a multicultural democracy to keep it as strong as ever.
Wishing you and your loved ones a safe, joyful, and meaningful July 4th!
