The U.S. House of Representatives was designed to be the most responsive body to the people, reflecting the voices and needs of communities across the country. 

But, today, the House betrayed working Americans and passed Trump’s Big Ugly Bill. Republican lawmakers chose Big Oil CEOs and billionaires over the health and safety of everyday people and our communities.

Make no mistake, House Republicans willfully passed a bill that will make us poorer, sicker, and less safe by:

• Cutting healthcare for more than two million Californians, which will lead to hospital closures, increase care costs, and increase the number of uninsured individuals.
• Slashing programs that provide low-income people with monthly benefits to buy food, which will take food off the table for more than five million people across the state.
• Increasing household energy costs, up to $400 per year, by eliminating clean energy tax credits and gutting clean energy development.
• Eliminating more than 40,000 jobs by wiping out clean energy manufacturing.

Republican lawmakers are helping corporate polluters fast-track destructive projects and dodge environmental review, while working families are left to bear the cost in rising energy prices, worsening air quality, and lost economic opportunity.

The people didn’t ask for this, and we won’t sit by while corporate polluters try to rewrite the rules in their favor.

We know that this can feel scary and overwhelming—but we also know that we are not alone. Now is the time for Californians to rise together and meet this moment with pressure and resistance.
