John,

This Independence Day, close to 200 veterans are issuing a powerful message to Congress: Defend the Constitution and the oath you swore to it — not to political power or party loyalty.

Their letter — organized by Issue One — will get delivered to Congress, [1] presenting our elected leaders with a powerful plea from patriotic men and women who swore the same oath to the Constitution and our country:

“We did not risk our lives to defend a Republic only to see its core institutions undermined by unchecked executive power and short-sighted politics.”

Over the last few months, we’ve seen disregard for constitutional guardrails and an unwillingness by many in Congress to stand up to abuses of executive power.

These veterans are sharing a message that we’re sure resonates with you and many Americans: Congress needs to do its job, and we’re watching to make sure they will.

Because right now, they’re standing on the sidelines.

But all of us aren’t. Together we’re rejecting corruption and executive overreach, and standing proudly for our democracy.

We’re going to continue to amplify Americans’ voices and mobilize to ensure Congress knows that it's time for them to reassert their authority and restore the crucial checks and balances our system depends on. Want to help us continue this crucially important work? Donate today!

Thanks for standing with us and we hope you have a great holiday weekend.

P.S. Did you see our recent ad with veterans calling on Congress to keep their oath to the Constitution just like they did? Check it out if you haven’t and share it with your family and friends!
