Legislative Update – July 2, 2025

Dear neighbors,

This week, we remember the Battle of Gettysburg, which took place from July 1-3, 1863. Minnesota honors the soldiers of the First Minnesota Volunteer Regiment, which was among the first regiments of any state offered for volunteer service.

On July 2, 1863, the First Minnesota helped turn the tide of the Battle of Gettysburg, at great cost, and two soldiers from the regiment received the Congressional Medal of Honor for their heroic actions. On July 3, the Regiment captured the 28th Virginia Battle flag, which Minnesota still has and is sometimes displayed by the Minnesota Historical Society. Independence Day

This Independence Day, I’m reflecting on the progress we've made together in building a state that works better for everyday Minnesotans. From protecting our environment, to supporting public education, to ensuring access to affordable healthcare, our values guide our work. There is still much work to be done, and I’m committed to continuing to improve our district and state.

House offices will be closed on Thursday and Friday for the holiday weekend. I hope you get time this week to celebrate with family and friends, and I wish you a Happy Fourth!

Kaposia Days

Thank you to all the volunteers, organizers, and community members who made the Kaposia Days 50 such a success! I was proud to present a resolution from the Minnesota House of Representatives recognizing Kaposia Days and to help call bingo on Saturday. It was great to see so many folks brave the hot weather to attend.

Dakota-Scott Workforce Development Board

The latest update from the Dakota-Scott Workforce Development Board shows that the unemployment rates in Dakota and Scott counties are both below the state and national averages. I also wanted to share some information from the Board for those seeking a job or career support.

Most Mondays from 10 am-3 pm, staff from CareerForce West St. Paul field questions from and provide resources to job seekers at The Open Door Pantry [ [link removed] ] in Eagan. The Open Door provides food support for low-income individuals and families throughout Dakota County. For more information about The Open Door, call 651-686-0787.
