SCOTUS just sided with South Carolina’s effort to block Medicaid funding to Planned Parenthood — threatening to cut off health care for nearly half of its patients. We’re not mincing words: this opens the door for states across the country to defund Planned Parenthood. This devastating decision didn’t come from nowhere. It’s the result of a decades-long strategy by anti-choice extremists to seize control of state legislatures. And now, emboldened by this ruling, we know they’ll continue to accelerate their efforts to attack reproductive healthcare nationwide. Our strategy works. In 2023, we helped flip the Virginia General Assembly blue, protecting the last stronghold for reproductive freedom in the South. But this November, the entire House of Delegates and the governor’s office are on the ballot — and the anti-choice forces are going all in. Just days ago, a major and well-funded anti-abortion group launched a field program targeting several of our candidates' districts to “defeat abortion.” And with the Supreme Court greenlighting attacks on Planned Parenthood from right-wing politicians at the state level, the stakes in these races just got even higher. Grassroots donations power our nationwide organizing operation, help us equip and support Sister District candidates, and win the most urgent elections.
