Each month we hold Planning Commission meetings and present to the Board of Island County Commissioners (Board) on topics relevant to Island County’s 2025 Comprehensive Plan Update. Below are our upcoming meetings and engagement opportunities. Revised Goals and Policies Released for 45 Day Public Comment Period As part of the 2025 Comprehensive Plan update, staff have released revised goals and policies for public review and input. Public comments will be accepted on the revised goals and policies until July 14, 2025. Visit our website for more information and details on how to comment.
Planning Commission The next Planning Commission meeting will be on Wednesday, July 9 at 6 pm. Long Range Planning will review the revised goals and policies for the Climate and Economic Development Elements with the Planning Commission. Materials can be found in the agenda center.
Board of County Commissioners Long Range Planning will be meeting with the Board during a special session on July 1 at 1 PM to review the revised goals and policies for the Capital Facilities & Utilities and Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Elements. Meeting materials are now available in the agenda center. Planning will be reviewing the revised goals and policies for the Climate and Economic Development Elements with the Board on July 2 at 1 PM. Planning will also be discussing changes to the zoning regulations for the Freeland Non-Municipal Urban Growth Area to support the development of workforce housing. Time allowing, we will also finish reviewing the goals and policies for the Natural Resources Element. Materials are now available in the agenda center. Planning will be meeting with the Board on July 9 to wrap up any topics that needed further discussion. Meeting materials and more information will available in the agenda center later this week.
Board of County Commissioners – Public Hearing on Mixed-Use RAID Moratorium On July 8, starting at 10 AM, the Board of County Commissioners will be holding a public hearing for a moratorium (C-35-25, PLG-005-25) on the processing of all land use and building applications for and construction in Mixed-Use RAID zones of Rural Center, Rural Village, and Camano Gateway Village. The Board asked Planning to revise the moratorium (C-29-25) enacted on April 15, 2025, to include provisions for commercial property owners to make minor updates and emergency repairs during the moratorium.
