After the 9/11 attacks happened during my senior year of high school, I felt a call to serve. So I headed off to the Naval Academy as a teenager.
I served in the Navy—two deployments at sea, one on the ground in Iraq. I learned to put the mission first and those I served alongside ahead of myself. The motto was, “Ship. Shipmate. Self.” That same commitment drives me in Congress every single day to fight for my fellow veterans and the hardworking people of Western Pennsylvania.
But right now, Republicans in the House are threatening critical programs that so many Americans rely on—just so they can give a bigger piece of the pie to huge corporations and billionaires.
They’re bringing a chainsaw to the Social Security Administration and the VA, threatening the hard-earned benefits and care of millions of seniors and veterans. And now, they’re pushing a fiscally reckless plan that would cut billions of dollars from Medicaid, leaving millions of Americans without healthcare coverage.
My time in the Navy taught me to stand up for what’s right and to never shy away from a righteous fight for the hardworking people of our country. And I won't stop now.
