No New Nuclear weapons! Join the emergency protest on Saturday!

Thanks to all the groups and members across the country that are joining this critical emergency protest on Saturday. This is in response to the UK government’s announcement it will buy 12 US nuclear-capable F-35A fighter jets. This decision is a very serious escalation in Britain’s nuclear capability that has been taken without parliamentary debate or public consultation.

WHY THIS MATTERS

• These jets will carry US ‘tactical’ B61-12 nuclear bombs that are designed to be used on the battlefield, increasing the risk of nuclear weapons being used.

• These jets will cost hundreds of millions, meaning even greater cuts to essential public services and critical benefits.

• The purchase breaches the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, which obliges the UK to disarm its nuclear weapons.

As stated in the government’s Strategic Defence Review, this is about Britain’s greater integration into NATO’s nuclear mission. This is already exposing serious flaws in the technical integration. For instance, the F35A jets can’t be refuelled by existing RAF tankers, meaning greater reliance on the US military infrastructure, potentially incurring even greater levels of spending wasted on US arms companies.
