The GOP reconciliation package — backed by Trump and rushed through Congress — would cut billions in federal Medicaid and Affordable Care Act funding to states. This disastrous bill would strip away health care from 16 million Americans and put more than 300 rural hospitals at risk of closure, including Baystate Franklin Medical Center right here in Massachusetts.

The impact would be devastating — especially for communities that already struggle to access care. Hospitals in Massachusetts alone could lose more than $177 million in revenue. At the hearing, Lori didn’t mince words. She called out the Secretary’s failure to offer a plan, pressed him on how hospitals are supposed to stay open when their funding is slashed, and reminded everyone in the room that when these facilities close:

“People are going to die. These hospitals are going to close. Labor and delivery units are going to disappear. If mental health services are stripped away, that’s the consequence of your policies.”

She spoke for families in Massachusetts and across the country — families who rely on Medicaid, maternity wards, mental health services, and pediatric care that could all disappear under this legislation.
