My name is Emma Milne. I'm a vet (you may remember me from BBC1’s 'Vets in Practice') and I have supported Freedom for Animals for many years.
I have helped to provide expert opinion on their investigation findings, including their undercover footage of birds of prey being tethered in zoos, and I backed their calls for a ban on this cruel practice.
As a vet I strongly believe that animals do not belong in captivity, especially when being used for human entertainment.
Having been involved with many charities over the years, I know how difficult fundraising can be and just how important regular donations are, no matter how small. They let charities plan campaigns in a much more coordinated way.
From now until 6th July, the charity is appealing for 20 new Freedom Champions to join them in their work. So far, five people who care about animals like you do have signed up, making a monthly donation to fund public investigations which will expose cruel practices, and pressure campaigns to bring about lasting change for animals in need.
Emma graduated from Bristol in 1996. She was a trustee of the Animal Welfare Foundation for 6 years and sat as their representative on the BVA Ethics and Welfare group for 2 years. She has written 9 books on pet animal welfare and responsible choices for pet owners. Emma has spoken at various conferences on different animal welfare subjects, notably pedigree animal health and the welfare issues of extreme conformation. She is a patron of RWAF and Dogs Trust, a trustee of the Dog Breeding Reform Group and also works with many other charities helping animals around the world.
Emma now lives in France with her family, including a cat and two gerbils. She continues her welfare and writing work.
