I’m happy to report that the POWER Act (HB 3546), one of our priorities in the Energy Affordability and Utility Accountability package, recently passed and is now headed to the Governor’s desk to be signed into law! We’re still working hard to get One Stop Shop 2.0 (HB 3081) and Get the Junk Out of Rates (SB 88) across the finish line before session ends but time is running out.
Safeguarding Streamflows to Protect Oregon’s Water (SB 427) was one of our priority bills this session and would have been the most significant progress for Oregon’s streams and rivers in decades. Unfortunately, the bill stalled in the Senate Rules Committee. However, we’ve since pivoted to support SB 1153, which addresses the same problems and prohibits harm to fish. SB 1153 is an important step forward in modernizing our water laws and we are pleased to see tribal consultation as part of this bill. Nevertheless, it will still take a big effort to get it across the finish line as it is currently stuck in the legislature.
After a long wait, the transportation package (HB 2025) finally dropped a couple weeks ago. While it includes several investments that we advocated for, it does not include everything necessary to meet the needs of our communities and to achieve our climate goals. However, a new amendment has been added to the bill which would provide funds for investments in transportation electrification and community paths and help us meet some of our goals but that amendment is not likely to move forward and the package does not currently move us forward on climate.
