"Watch, Don't Launch": Kitsap County Urges Safe Fireworks Practices This Fourth of July

*PORT ORCHARD, Wash.* – As Independence Day approaches, Kitsap County officials are urging residents to celebrate safely and attend professional fireworks shows instead of lighting fireworks at home. With current drought conditions and increasing fire danger, the risk to the community is heightened, making safety more important than ever.

“The safest way to enjoy fireworks is to leave them to the professionals,” said Fire Marshal David Lynam. “We want everyone to enjoy the holiday, but simple precautions — including attending a public show instead of lighting fireworks yourself — can prevent tragic accidents.”

Each year, thousands of people — including many children and teens — suffer serious injuries due to fireworks. Beyond burns and trauma, fireworks can spark devastating fires and lead to property damage or fatalities.

Celebrate with Public Fireworks Displays

This year, Kitsap County encourages residents to *“Watch, Don’t Launch”* and take part in organized community celebrations featuring professional fireworks displays, including:


* *Bremerton Bridge Blast* – June 28, 10:15 p.m.
* *Kingston Fireworks* – July 4, 10 p.m.
* *Fathoms O’ Fun (Port Orchard)* – July 5, 10 p.m.

These events offer safer, bigger, and better displays than anything that can be done at home — without the risk to life, pets, property, or first responders.

Fireworks Safety Reminders

If you do choose to use fireworks, please follow these important guidelines:


* *Discharge fireworks safely*: Only on your own property. Embers must not leave your lot.
* *Know the law*: Violations may result in fines up to $1,000 and 90 days in jail.
* *Dispose of properly: *Soak used fireworks in water, wrap them in plastic, and place them in the garbage. Never pour used water into storm drains.

Key Fireworks Dates and Regulations

* *Sales permitted*: June 28 to July 4, 12:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
* *Discharge permitted*:
* "Unincorporated Kitsap, Poulsbo, Port Orchard": July 4, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
* "Bremerton": July 3 at 11 a.m. to July 4 at 11:59 p.m.
* "Bainbridge Island": Fireworks are not allowed

Fireworks are prohibited in all Kitsap County parks. Be courteous to your neighbors and mindful of the impact fireworks can have on pets, veterans, and others sensitive to loud noise.

Save 911 for Real Emergencies

Calls about fireworks can overwhelm 911 centers. Only call 911 for true emergencies, such as fires, injuries, or threats to life or property.

For non-emergency complaints about noise or illegal discharge:


* *Unincorporated Kitsap County*: Use the Sheriff’s Citizen Service Portal.
* *Bremerton, Port Orchard, and Poulsbo: *Use the Kitsap 911 fireworks complaint page (active from June 27 to July 6).
* *Bainbridge Island*: Call the Bainbridge Island Police Department at 206-842-5211 (July 3–4, 5 p.m. to 1 a.m.).
