Hey friend—chances are, your utility bills are too high.
How do I know? On average, California's residential electricity rates are close to double those in the rest of the U.S.—and our rates are growing faster than inflation and faster than similar rate increases in other states. (1)
When you pay your utility bills, that money should go to the services you're using: the energy that powers your lights, grid upkeep and upgrades to prevent wildfires and outages, and clean energy solutions to make energy cheaper, more stable, and more abundant.
While our prices go up, for-profit utility companies shouldn't be able to use our money to pay for promotional ads and political lobbying.
The solution? Tell your state legislators: Stop for-profit utility companies from using my ratepayer dollars for lobbying and promotional advertising.

With bills as high as they are right now, we don't want ratepayer dollars being used for things—like public relations campaigns and political lobbying—that have nothing to do with the services we pay for. Right now, California Environmental Voters is supporting two key pieces of legislation that will keep utility bills down:
Protecting Ratepayers from Utility Abuses (SB 24 - McNerney) prevents for-profit utilities from using ratepayer's money to lobby against the creation of public-owned utilities, helping lower utility bills and supporting affordable public power.
California Ratepayer Protection Act (AB 1167 - Berman) prevents utility companies from spending ratepayers' money on political lobbying and promotional advertising.
Will you fill out our one-minute form to contact your representatives in the state legislature and tell them to vote YES on these solutions to make energy more affordable for Californians?
Your voice makes a massive difference as we work to pass bold affordability solutions like these. We're so grateful to have your support.
Thank you,
