Your Voice—and Your Gift—Can Protect Aging Services
John,
Over seven decades, we’ve seen the good that happens when the nation invests in support programs for older adults—and what goes wrong when it doesn’t.
That’s why we’re deeply concerned about the latest federal budget proposal, which would:
Cut $31 billion from the federal agencies responsible for overseeing most aging services programs in America.
Wipe out funding for chronic disease and falls prevention programs that have been proven to keep older adults healthy and independent.
Eliminate the Senior Community Service Employment Program, the only program exclusively designed for people age 55+ to get training and re-enter the workforce.
Add work requirements to Medicaid and SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), putting health care and nutrition further out of reach for many, especially older adults who struggle to find employment due to age-related discrimination, health limitations, or disabilities.
For older adults like Tom, these cuts are personal.
At age 60, Tom was hesitant to apply for SNAP. He had heard the process could be overwhelming. But with NCOA’s support, it was smooth sailing. He received help with his application and was awarded the maximum benefit.
Cuts to SNAP could put food out of reach for millions of older Americans, like Tom.
