John, if you’re still not convinced that we need bold action to protect our children from Big Tech, this story might change your mind.
A report in the Wall Street Journal exposed how Meta’s AI “digital companions” have had sexually explicit conversations with underage users — even after users identified themselves as being underage. [1]
These companies are so focused on chasing short-sighted, profit-driven quarterly metrics, they need as many eyeballs on their site as possible — no matter who they hurt.
That’s not a glitch. That’s their business model.
And unless we do something to change their incentives, these profit-driven companies are going to keep hurting children to pad their bottom line.
Congress must act now to rein in Big Tech and pass the bipartisan Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA). And with your help, Issue One is fighting to get it over the finish line.
But we’re up against deep-pocketed tech lobbyists who are rejecting even these commonsense reforms to keep profiting off the attention of our kids.
And according to our advocacy team, if we don’t hit our fundraising goal of $10,000 raised online by June 30th, we’re going to have to start scaling back on our efforts to keep this issue on Congress’ radar.
Donate now to help us fight to protect kids online and pass KOSA >>
You already know what’s at stake, John. For years, social media companies have built features designed to keep kids glued to screens. They’ve ignored red flags about self-harm, eating disorders, and abuse.
Time after time they’ve chosen greed over keeping our children safe.
Now, with KOSA reintroduced in Congress with bipartisan support, we have our best shot yet at holding Big Tech accountable for the harm they’re doing to our children.
Issue One is rallying national support — from highlighting survivor voices to urging Congress to put children before corporate profits. And just yesterday, we helped organize a memorial on Capitol Hill to honor the lives of children who lost their lives to the harms of social media.
We can do all this and more to push Congress to act on protecting kids’ safety online. But without grassroots support, we can’t keep up the pressure.
The next few months are critical to pass the newly-reintroduced Kids Online Safety Act. To do that, we have a $10,000 June goal to keep our campaign to get KOSA passed running. If we don’t meet that goal, our momentum could stall. Please rush a donation by June 30 to fight for kids’ safety online.
Big Tech will keep moving fast and breaking things — unless we stop them. Let’s make sure Congress hears from the people, not just the lobbyists.
Thanks for fighting for what’s right, The Issue One Team
