John,

Earlier this month — just hours after a Minnesota state representative and her husband were shot and killed in an act of political violence, with two others hospitalized by the same shooter — across the country, millions gathered peacefully to make their voices heard in opposition to the Trump Administration.

Despite the peaceful and lawful nature of these gatherings, they were interrupted by spates of violence — most notably in Utah, where a father of two was shot and killed.

Arthur Folasa Ah Loo should be alive today. Melissa and Mark Hortman should be alive today. All three of them were taken from us by episodes of gun violence specifically targeted towards those making their voices heard in our democracy.

But make no mistake: We are not intimidated. Our differences will be settled with our voices and our votes, not with guns and threats.

While Donald Trump rolls back efforts to combat gun violence — removing safeguards even as he says that offenders will be held responsible — we’re taking real, tangible actions to make our communities safer. We’ve passed legislation to keep guns out of dangerous hands, to keep firearms out of sensitive spaces, and to prevent violence before it happens.

And we will continue to do so.

If you stand with us in this effort to fight peacefully for our democracy, we hope you’ll join us by pitching in to The Alliance today.
