President Trump names the biggest threat to his reelection. And it's probably not what you think. "President Trump on Thursday said he sees mail-in voting as the biggest threat to his reelection in an interview with Politico that was published Friday. 'My biggest risk is that we don’t win lawsuits,' Trump told the news outlet. 'We have many lawsuits going all over. And if we don’t win those lawsuits, I think — I think it puts the election at risk.'" (The Hill) In an interview published this morning, President Trump said mail-in voting is the "biggest threat to his reelection," as some states attempt to have an incredible expansion of vote-by-mail due to COVID-19 concerns.
The Republican National Committee and the Trump campaign have responded to some vote-by-mail changes with lawsuits, including in California.
President Trump has frequently shared his concerns about the potential for voter fraud with widespread vote-by-mail.
As experts at the Heritage Foundation have noted, automatically sending ballots out to all registered voters -- as some states want to do -- "is an open invitation to fraud and abuse." You can check out their report on election security using vote-by-mail here.
Amy Klobuchar withdraws from VP consideration. "Senator Amy Klobuchar said Thursday that she is withdrawing her name from consideration as Joe Biden’s running mate, saying a woman of color should be chosen as vice presidential nominee instead." (National Review) Amy Klobuchar withdrew herself from consideration as Joe Biden's VP. A list of potential running mates is expected to be drawn up by July 1 with Biden making an announcement by August 1.
In her withdrawal, she explained that she thought a woman of color should be chosen for the VP spot.
The fight between President Trump and Silicon Valley is only heating up ... and it's likely to shape the 2020 campaign. "Twitter took the rare step of pinning a 'manipulated media' warning to a tweet from President Donald Trump, who reposted an old, remixed viral video of two toddlers, one who is black and one who is white, greeting each other with a hug on a New York City sidewalk." (Daily Wire) Social media has been an important communication channel for President Trump, both for his official duties as President and in his campaigning. But he and his campaign are continuing to find conflict with Big Tech's social media platforms.
Twitter is once again going after President Trump, this time labeling a video he posted as "manipulated video" with a clickable warning.
This comes at the same time as Facebook removing Trump campaign ads from the platform for "displaying an Antifa symbol, because that symbol was once used by Nazis to designate political prisoners," as the National Review reported.
Why doesn't Joe Biden want to do an extra debate? President Trump certainly does. "The Trump campaign urged the presidential debate commission on Thursday to host four debates in the upcoming presidential election season, reportedly also asking the commission to host the first debate soon after Labor Day." (Daily Wire) The Trump campaign has proposed changes to the presidential debate schedule, with the goal of adding an additional presidential debate, starting them early, and not conflicting with any NFL football games.
But the Biden campaign -- and the commission that oversees presidential debates -- does not seem interested in changes, as the Daily Wire reported.
