Team,

On June 19, 1865, news of freedom finally reached enslaved people in Galveston, Texas -- over two years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Today, we commemorate Juneteenth as a time to reflect on and celebrate the end of slavery in America.

While we celebrate this step on our march towards justice, it's also a reminder that we're still fighting to end systemic racism today. Black Americans still endure discrimination across nearly every facet of public and private life.

Demonstrations across the country have laid bare just how much progress we still have to make in our country. One thing we can do now is properly honor the legacy of this day by making Juneteenth a federal holiday.

Part of moving our country forward to a more equal and just society is to remember why we're fighting.

If you agree, add your name to join me in demanding Juneteenth become a federal holiday.

Thank you,

Theresa
