Dear Friend,

I’m heartbroken by the devastating loss of my friend and colleague, Rep. Melissa Hortman, and her husband Mark who were taken from us in a senseless act of political violence. Melissa was not only a dedicated public servant, but a dear friend who led with passion, integrity, and deep love for her community.

I’m also holding Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, in my thoughts and prayers as they recover from this horrific attack. I am closely monitoring their condition and surrounding them with love and strength in this difficult time. This violence is a heartbreaking reminder that, no matter our differences, no one deserves harm. Violence has no place in our politics, in our homes, or in our communities. As we grieve this loss, may we carry forward Melissa’s spirit of choosing compassion and working every day to build safer, more caring communities for everyone.

Speaking Out Against a Police State
Image

I spoke on the House floor last week because what we’re seeing in cities like Minneapolis, Los Angeles, and across the country is deeply alarming. Federal agents in unmarked vehicles, wearing masks, are detaining peaceful protestors and immigrants. ICE is targeting people who are doing the right thing by showing up to court, paying their taxes, and speaking out for justice. This is a form of intimidation and abuse of power.

This administration's policies are targeting political dissent and through partnerships with tech billionaires and Palantir, a surveillance company to do it. In my district and all across the country, folks are standing up for one another to reject fear and choose courage, compassion, and solidarity. I’m proud to stand with them. Watch here

Questioning the Department of Labor Secretary
Image
At a recent House Education and Workforce Committee hearing, I pressed the Secretary of Labor on the decisions to gut child labor enforcement and to slash international programs that fight forced labor in global supply chains.

In March, the Department of Labor terminated ILAB programs, many of which were combating child labor, trafficking, and slave labor around the world. When I asked the Secretary whether she approved the decision, or whether it came from DOGE, the White House, she did not give a direct response. And when I raised the alarming decline in OSHA and Wage and Hour Division staff, there was no real plan to protect workers from exploitation and harm.

Kids should not be working in dangerous conditions at meatpacking plants or in factories. American workers are not safer when there are fewer inspectors, fewer field offices and a decrease in regulations. Watch here.

Celebrating the Minnesota Frost’s Historic Victory

Image

Last week, I was proud to honor the Minnesota Frost on the House Floor for their incredible back-to-back victory, winning the Walter Cup for the second year in a row at the PWHL Championships. Their teamwork has once again put Minnesota at the forefront of women’s sports. Congratulations to the Frost on making history and continuing to show the world what Minnesota champions look like!
