John,
The Senate Finance Committee has officially signed off on a budget that would make the Trump tax cuts permanent and strip more than a trillion dollars from Medicaid, nutrition assistance, and clean energy. They had the chance to stop this cash grab. They chose tax handouts to the rich instead.[1]
This plan delivers permanent tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires while raiding services that working families rely on. In fact, the Senate’s attacks on Medicaid are even more severe than those in the House-passed budget, while maintaining cuts to SNAP that will directly harm working families. These cuts will directly impact people’s lives: they mean hospitals closing, children going hungry, and families losing health coverage while billionaires cash in.
The tax provisions mirror the worst of the House bill. According to our independent analysis, the estate tax remains gutted. The top individual tax rate stays artificially low. Wealthy business owners get a sweetheart "small business" loophole. Clean energy investments are stripped back. This is not about growth or stability. This is a payday for the wealthy, bought and paid for with public suffering.
According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, this plan would add $3.4 trillion to the national debt while Republicans pretend to care about deficits.[2] They are trading long-term stability for short-term tax handouts. Families lose healthcare, nutrition, and energy savings. The wealthy gain more money and more power, and can pay even less attention to rules the rest of us all live by.
Tell the Senate: Stop this disaster. Reject permanent tax cuts for the rich that are paid for with cuts to Medicaid, SNAP, and clean energy.
This is not a compromise. It is a con. Working families are being squeezed while billionaires and CEOs walk off with a windfall. The GOP is choosing Wall Street over Main Street. The results will be cruel and in many cases irreversible.
Permanent tax cuts for the rich mean permanent underfunding for everyone else. Medicaid cuts will throw people off life-saving care. SNAP cuts will impose hunger on the most vulnerable. And fewer clean energy investments mean higher energy bills and a climate disaster down the line.[3] The costs of this budget are real and catastrophic.
One hundred billionaire families spent $2.6 billion to influence the 2024 election.[4] Now they are collecting. This budget delivers everything they asked for: tax breaks, deregulation, and weakened public services. The GOP is cashing in on political investments while communities pay the price.
Every senator who votes for this budget is voting to make life harder for working people. This is not economic policy. It is economic warfare.
Tell the Senate: Reject this budget and the billionaire tax scam that comes with it.
Together, we can beat back this billionaire-fueled budget assault.
