Range and habitat
Giant pandas are found only in temperate mountainous forests in southwestern China
Interesting info
These bears have a "pseudo thumb"βan elongated wrist bone that serves as a sixth digit, allowing pandas to grasp bamboo, their main food. They eat up to 84 pounds of bamboo each day.
A newborn giant panda weighs just a few ouncesβabout 1/900th the size of its mother. This is the rarest bear species. The most recent survey found about 1,864 pandas in the wild, which marked an increase in their population. WWF has helped conserve pandas for more than 50 years.
