Tomorrow is World Refugee Day. It’s a day to honor the strength and courage of people forced to flee their homes to escape conflict, natural disaster or persecution – including children like Daniel*.

Daniel and his family, like many refugees, feel the long-term impact that Save the Children has had on their livelihoods, which enables them to thrive today.

When Daniel was just a toddler, they fled violence in South Sudan, seeking safety and stability in a Ugandan refugee camp.

His mother, Elizabeth*, struggled to afford the basics for her children. She felt isolated and overwhelmed — unable to speak up for her needs — as she adapted to a new country. Any money she received, she spent on food for her children.

But, a few years later, everything changed. Elizabeth joined a Save the Children program that taught her the skills she needed to earn income, save money, keep livestock and invest in her future. With this support, Elizabeth was able to afford to pay school fees for 13-year-old Daniel, who dreams of becoming a pilot.

John, even in the most challenging situations — conflict, disaster, poverty, hunger — children continue to dream of making the world a better place. We all must do our part to help them build a better tomorrow.

A generous group of donors has donated to a matching gift fund that will 2X match every dollar you donate by June 30th, up to $75,000.

Despite recent foreign aid cuts, Save the Children is continuing to do everything possible to ensure children have the essentials they need to survive. Here are a few examples of how we’re supporting children and their families in places around the world:

- Cash assistance: In Syria, we’re distributing cash assistance to help families displaced by conflict buy what they need most — food, clothing or other essentials.
- Maternal and newborn care: In Rwanda, we’re delivering health and nutrition care to expecting mothers and children in the Mahama Refugee Camp.
- Child-friendly spaces: After a massive earthquake struck Vanuatu last year, we provided children with a safe space to play, learn, socialize and express themselves.Your support is critical for children whose homes and schools have been destroyed, whose families have fled from violence and who've watched their communities deteriorate from extreme weather conditions.

John, there’s no better time to make your first gift than right now, when every $1 you give will be matched with $2 for children in crisis.

Together, we can keep kids dreaming.

Thank you,
