For more information, please visit www.perkiomenwatershed.org | My Statement from this Weekend | Tomorrow, Thursday, June 19, we recognize Juneteenth. This day commemorates the end of slavery and the emancipation of enslaved peoples in Galveston, Texas in 1865, over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It’s important that we not only remember our past but also recommit our goal to learn from it in order to build a more equal and accepting world. If you’re looking for local Juneteenth events this week, check out the section below! Another reminder that my district office will be closed tomorrow for the holiday. If you need any state-related assistance, please call 484-200-8263 or email [email protected] and a member of my staff will contact you. | Reminder! My district office will be closed on Thursday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth. We will re-open on Friday, June 20 at 9:30 a.m. If you need any state-related assistance, please call 484-200-8263 or email [email protected] and a member of my staff will contact you. | Congratulations Class of 2025 | Congratulations to all of the graduates from Methacton School District, Norristown Area School District, The Pathway School, Perkiomen Valley School District, Pope John Paul II High School and Spring-Ford Area School District. Hours of hard work led you to this remarkable achievement, so, make sure you celebrate! I wish you all the best of luck in your next chapter. | Transit Funding Bill Passes | This week, I voted yes on Rep. Neilson’s House Bill 1364, which passed the PA House with bipartisan support (107-96). This legislation supports Governor Shapiro’s effort to fund transit services in all of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties. In our part of Montgomery County, having functioning mass transit means our neighbors can commute to their job that’s in King of Prussia, a local shopping center, in the city or even travel to an event at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center. Mass transit provides broad and deep benefits to our communities, both city and rural job opportunities are more accessible, less cars are on the roads, economic activity booms and communities are connected. HB 1364 now goes to the state Senate for consideration. You can track this bill here: www.palegis.us/legislation/bills/2025/hb1364 | I joined my colleagues in the Black Maternal Health Caucus for PA Momnibus Day 2025 this week, highlighting legislative efforts for Black maternal health in Pennsylvania. It’s up to us to end the disparities and high mortality rates that Black mothers and birthing people continue to face in today’s world. The package of bills introduced is part of the ongoing push to deliver first-rate healthcare for all. You can learn more here: https://www.pahouse.com/bmh | Wreath Ceremony at Medal of Honor Grove | Last Friday, celebrations began for the 250th birthday of our United States Army. I attended a wreath ceremony at the Medal of Honor Grove in Valley Forge along with fellow veteran state Rep. Nancy Guenst and Lower Providence supervisor Terri Neufeglise. We honored the soldiers who gallantly gave their all… for every one of us. America’s bravest made the ultimate sacrifice so that our communities can thrive and so the democratic values our nation was built upon can be upheld. The American way of life is not just for one kind of American, and it doesn't promote persecution or hatred toward others. Liberty and justice are, as we often declare, FOR ALL, and our American heroes gave their lives in preservation of those American rights. | On Friday I attended the West Norriton Township Art Show, showcasing a brilliant artist, Nathan Durnin. Neighbors and strangers alike gathered to enjoy his creativity and talent and to celebrate his success. This is the America that we love, where community comes together to rejoice in the warmth of expression and the power of innovation. Support for the Arts is a priority for those who understand humanity's need to communicate through our senses. | Saturday Re-Enactment March | Here, in Pennsylvania, like so many other good things, our Continental Army was born. On Saturday, I watched a group of re-enactors march out of the Valley Forge encampment to the statue of General Baron von Steuben. We stood together, as Congresswoman Madeleine Dean recognized the legacy of service and the installment of excellence that is our U.S. Army. And that Army serves our entire nation, protecting the freedoms of every single American. Our Army and Armed Forces are forged by the history of connection. From Irish brigades, African American soldiers, to New Yorkers and Kansans, to integration, opportunity, education and training. We are all American, and we have what we have because of those who gave their all, for us all. It’s up to us to uphold these values—not singularly, but together. | Indianhead Watershed Fishing Derby | Fishing is one of the most American activities outdoor enthusiasts can participate in. From our streams to our rivers and not forgetting our oceans, Americans will pack a cooler and, young and old alike, spend time by the water's edge casting a line. On Saturday I was happy to participate again this year in the Indianhead Watershed’s youth fishing derby with over 40 children, the Lower Providence Optimist Club and the Stony Creek Anglers! Unfortunately, the day was marked by the tragic political violence in Minnesota, those who attempted to pit Americans against one another. That’s not what our nation was built on. Casting a line out with a friend, like so many of us did on Saturday, and communities coming together to enjoy the beautiful environment our country has to offer, that’s what America is. | Upper Providence Auto Show | This weekend I went to Upper Providence Township’s Broadbelt Classic car show, along with a few Upper Providence supervisors—Bill Starling, Maria Jones-Sadler and former supervisor Laurie Higgins who were raising money for the UPT Parks & Recreation Summer Camp Scholarships. That’s what good leaders do, they take care of the people they serve and make things better for the entire community, or an entire nation. They don’t take advantage of their position, pin American against American or break the bond that is community. | On Monday, my staff joined elected officials and community members for Montgomery County’s Juneteenth Flag Raising. We heard powerful speeches, poetry, performances and saw our community gather together to commemorate the day that marked the end of slavery. To watch a recording of the flag raising ceremony, click here: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1EnhgEjrbt/ There are a bunch of Juneteenth events happening across Montgomery County this week, make sure you check out the Community Events section at the bottom of this email. | Friends, my 2025 Summer Collection Drive is live now through August 15.
