Hi there,
Did you see the footage undercover activists recently filmed inside egg facilities around the globe?
As I looked through it, there were a lot of moments when I had to take a break and step away from my computer. This one hen, filmed in a facility in Japan, clutched me by the heart. (Please note before scrolling further that this is a difficult image to see.)
She never took a breath of clean air. She never closed her eyes against the sunlight. She never foraged in grass. She never felt a gentle, kind hand on her feathers. She never even had a name.

So often, we see photos of farmed animals as a faceless mass, crammed into sheds and cages by the hundreds or thousands. It can be hard for our brains to comprehend that every one of these animals is an individual, whole and unique—and suffering. Immensely.
We talk a lot about the scale of our impact. How together, we’ve reduced the suffering of hundreds of millions of hens. How we’ve influenced massive corporations to change their ways. How some of the largest caged egg facilities are closing down.
But ultimately, this comes down to individual beings. Individual beings like this one hen, whose image speaks so deeply to my soul.
Thank you for fighting for her dignity.
For her,
