VIDEO BY: PATHWAYS FOR WILDLIFE
Dear John,
We like to talk about wildlife crossings as a win-win-win.
Animals win because they are not injured or killed by cars, and they can safely cross a road in search of a new habitat or a mate.
People win because we no longer risk collisions with moose and other large animals, preventing totaled cars and costly and dangerous injuries.
And the public at large wins because less wildlife-vehicle collisions mean less societal costs associated with those collisions, more robust and stable wildlife populations, and safer roadways for motorists and highway patrols who respond to collisions.
There are so many other wins for our society: landscapes win because they are reconnected and allowed to flourish; future generations win from seeing and experiencing more wildlife; and the media wins with interesting positive conservation stories to cover. It is hard to stop there with all the benefits crossings provide! They truly are an all-around win, for everyone.
I love wildlife crossings! ([link removed])
These societal wins are why we have been so successful in getting states across the U.S. to step up and allocate funding to wildlife crossings. Not just this year, but over the past 6 years, we have worked to secure $93 million in state funding for wildlife crossing and connectivity projects.
Over the next five years, we are poised to catalyze substantial investments and positive change in infrastructure planning to benefit wildlife. With your investment in Wildlands Network, we can grow that pot of dedicated funding, increase the number of wildlife crossings constructed across North America, and reconnect more habitat for wildlife so that we all can thrive.
Donate now to invest in wildlife crossings! ([link removed])
If you are asking yourself, “what can I do right now to make a positive impact?”, my answer is to invest in Wildlands Network. Together, we are going to continue the progress that has already been made and shape the future of North America for all species.
For the wild,
Erin
