En respuesta a los ataques contra la Representante Hortman y el Senador Hoffman 

Queridos hermanos y hermanas de la red Gamaliel, aliados y querida comunidad. Estoy  conmocionado, entristecido y muy afectado. Quiero comunicarles que esta mañana temprano,  mientras muchos dormíamos, un asesino les arrebató la vida a nuestra Representante de la  Cámara de Representantes de Minnesota, Melissa Hortman, y a su esposo en Brooklyn Park. 

El asesino, haciéndose pasar por policía, fue primero a Champlin, Minnesota, a la casa del  Senador John Hoffman, donde, en un acto cobarde, les disparó a él y a su esposa varias veces.  El senador John y su esposa sobrevivieron milagrosamente, fueron trasladados al hospital y se  están recuperando. 

Primero, quiero invitar a todos, especialmente a los líderes religiosos, a orar por la recuperación  del senador John Hoffman y su esposa. Oremos por ellos, sus familias y la comunidad que sufre  esta tragedia. Que nuestras oraciones se dirijan a remediar este virus de odio que se está  propagando, envenenando mentes, almas y corazones. Tememos que este odio esté alcanzando  niveles sin retorno. 

No podemos callar. Una receta de ingredientes venenosos de racismo, xenofobia, supremacía  nacionalista blanca y autoritarismo cristiano se encarna en la política nacional; nos ha alcanzado  en Minnesota, bajo el disfraz del orden y la ley que solo los distraídos o los ideólogos  "intencionadamente" promueven. 

A pesar de las tácticas de tipo GESTAPO del ICE y los sospechosos sucesos de violencia en Los  Ángeles, lo cierto es que más del 99.99% de las manifestaciones pacíficas se llevan a cabo en  apoyo a los inmigrantes. Ante las provocaciones deliberadas, no es casualidad que los estados que más apoyan a sus comunidades inmigrantes hayan sido atacados con tanta ferocidad, como  Minnesota, California e Illinois. 

Hoy, en Minnesota, no solo se han perpetrado secuestros de familias inmigrantes, sino que  ahora están robando la vida de nuestros líderes que comparten nuestros valores, como vivir la  vida, la libertad y la búsqueda de la felicidad. Por supuesto, todo esto forma parte de un entorno  hostil en el que vivimos con mayor intensidad cada día. Pero esto no nos detendrá. Seguiremos  honrando las vidas de la presidenta de la Cámara de Representantes, Melissa Hortman, y su  esposo, Mark, de quienes comparten nuestros valores, aman la paz y siguen buscando la justicia  sin violencia, pero con gran resistencia.

In Response to the attacks on Speaker Hortman and Senator Hoffman

Dear brothers and sisters from the Gamaliel network, allies and beloved community. I’m in shock, saddened and very upset. I want to communicate that early this morning, while many of us were asleep, An assassin stole the lives of our Speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives, Melissa Hortman and her husband in Brooklyn Park.

The killer, impersonating a police officer, first went to Champlin, MN, to the house of Senator John Hoffman where the killer, in a cowardly act, shot him and his wife multiple times. Senator John and his wife miraculously survived and were taken to the hospital and are recovering. 

I want to first invite everyone, especially religious leaders, to pray for the recovery of Senator John Hoffman and his wife. Let us pray for them, their families, and the community experiencing this tragedy. May our prayers go out to remedy this virus of hate, which is spreading, poisoning minds, souls, and hearts. We fear that this hate is reaching new levels of no return.

We cannot be silent. A recipe of poisonous ingredients of racism, xenophobia, white nationalist supremacy, and Christian authoritarianism is embodied in national politics; has reached us in Minnesota, under the disguise of order and law that only the “intentionally” distracted or ideologues promote.

Despite the GESTAPO like tactics of I.C.E. and the suspicious events of violence in Los Angeles; the fact is that more than 99.99% of the non-violent demonstrations are taking place in support of immigrants. In the face of deliberate provocations, it is no coincidence that the states most supportive of their immigrant communities have been under attack so fiercely, like Minnesota, California and Illinois.

Today, in Minnesota, not only have crimes of kidnapping immigrant families been perpetrated, but now they are stealing the lives of our leaders who share our values, such as living Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. Of course, it is all part of a hostile environment that we live in more intensely every day. But this will not stop us. We will continue to honor the lives of Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, of those who share our values, love peace, and continue to seek justice without violence but with great resistance.
