Public television and radio have long been a pillar of our communities, bringing quality journalism, children’s programming, emergency alert services, and other vitally important information to every corner of America for free.
Yet, the Trump Administration launched another attack on public broadcasting with its proposal – passed by the House GOP last week – to claw back $1.1 billion in funding already allocated by Congress for the non-partisan, non-profit Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). This would defund more than 1,500 broadcasting stations nationwide, including 14 here in Washington.
With this proposal now headed to the Senate, I won’t stand by while millions of Americans, particularly in rural communities, are cut off from the news and programming on which they rely.
