MONDAY E'NEWS June 2025 CPL Report Total statewide concealed pistol licenses dropped for the third consecutive month in May to 855,055 as of June 1, 2025 . Based on seasonal fluctuations of past years, and barring extraordinary events, we anticipate it will continue through September. A combination of environmental and market forces is in play here. For Michigan specifically, there might be some offset with CPLs becoming NICS exempt again, but that is unlikely to dramatically influence the overall tighter discretionary spending market and the fact that the most worrisome forms of violence are at pre-COVID levels. Morale Problem at Michigan State Police A recent membership vote by the Michigan State Police Troopers Association showed that less than 2% of troopers responding to the survey felt confident in the leadership of the Michigan State Police. Senate Minority Leader Aric Nesbitt (R-Lawton) said the MSP troopers’ vote is "a damning indictment of the current administration. It is undeniable that this is the absolute worst leadership our state police has ever seen and completely unacceptable for the troopers and public they serve. There needs to be a change at the top, and that change needs to happen immediately. Col. Grady must step down, or the governor must relieve him of his duties. At a time when too many elected officials are taking the sides of criminals and violent protesters, like we have seen play out across the country, it is important our troopers and law enforcement professionals know that their leaders have their backs.” Governor Whitmer, last week, dismissed the vote and expressed her continued support for Colonel James Grady remaining as the Director of the Michigan State Police.
