John,

Yesterday, we learned that Minnesota State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, were shot and killed in their home in what officials have called a targeted act of political violence. State Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, were also shot and remain hospitalized.

This was a horrific and deliberate act of violence against public servants. Our hearts are with their families, loved ones, and the communities they served so faithfully.

It is a devastating reminder that gun violence doesn’t just threaten our communities — it threatens the very foundation of our democracy. Our differences must be settled with our votes and our voices, not with guns and threats.

In a country where guns outnumber people, and where too many people with dangerous intent have easy access to firearms, no one is truly safe — not at school, not at the grocery store, not in houses of worship, and now, not even in the homes of our elected officials.

We cannot continue to accept this kind of violence as inevitable.

Here at the Alliance for Gun Responsibility, we are working on:
* Fighting to close loopholes that allow dangerous individuals to obtain guns;
* Investing in community-based programs that prevent violence before it happens;
* And advocating for a democracy where public servants can do their jobs without fear for their lives.

We know this isn’t an isolated incident. It’s part of a growing epidemic of political intimidation, fueled by easy access to guns and a failure to take action at the federal level. Even as President Trump pays lip service to holding yesterday’s perpetrators accountable, he’s steadily working to roll back policies that make our communities safer.

With your support, we’ll keep pushing for common-sense reforms that get guns out of dangerous hands. We’ll keep organizing, advocating, and demanding that public servants, and all of us, can live without fear of violence.

Together, we can break this cycle. But only if we act. Donate now to fund the fight for common-sense gun laws.
