Adam Schiff for Senate

Happy Father’s Day, John —

Today, we honor our fathers and other figures who shaped us into who we are today.

I want to take this moment to honor my greatest role model, my father, Ed Schiff, aka “Boca Eddie.” He passed away last year at age 96, and I’m missing him a lot today.

I want to tell you about my dad — because he is one of my greatest role models. And I hope you’ll read along.

Adam and his parents

Originally from Boston, my father left high school early to join the Army at the end of World War II. After his service, he used the GI Bill to attend the University of Alabama but left early to get started in business.

He chose the schmata — or clothing — business. Later, he got out of the schmata business and bought a lumber yard, where he put me to work in the summers.

My father taught me so much. When my dad was raising my brother Dan and me, he taught us to believe that even when times are tough, you always make sure to give back to your community.

He taught us to be good fathers, not by lecturing to us, but by showing us how.

And he taught us to stand up to bullies. He taught us to never back down from a fight when the cause is just — even when facing the toughest of challenges.

These ideas have guided me throughout my life.

I found myself reflecting on his guidance a lot during the new Trump administration, reminding myself not to yield to intimidation. Ultimately, I realized that bullies are, in fact, cowards.

With my dad’s good advice always front of my mind, I’m able to take on Donald Trump and hold him accountable for his abuses of power.

I’d like to think he’s proud of me. Just like I’m so, so proud of my children, and the paths and lives that they’ve chosen for themselves.

I’m working hard in the Senate to make sure everyone has a roof over their head. And that all Americans can put food on the table and afford medication. And that no one should live in fear of their rights and freedoms being stripped away.

My commitment to you is to keep up the fight for regular families just like the one I grew up in. To uphold the great lessons my father taught me — to do what I do best.

Now that you’ve learned about my father and how he’s motivated me, I hope you will donate to my campaign to continue to fight for these values in the Senate.

Spending Father’s Day without my dad is not easy, and I think of him and my mom often. Sharing stories about them with you helps me remember the good and spread the values he taught me growing up. I’m holding a special place in my thoughts for him and for those who have lost their parents.

And I'm wishing you all a very Happy Father’s Day.

Thank you.

— Adam
