Dear
Friend,
As the father of a daughter with drug-resistant epilepsy, I’m beyond grateful for your support of CURE Epilepsy, and I know that you are committed to creating a seizure-free world. That’s why – in case you haven’t seen it – I wanted to forward you my daughter’s email below.
When Channing was 10, she had her second seizure, and the ER doc told us she’d likely grow out of it. We clung to those words while suffering through debilitating seizures year after year, until eventually, at 14, she was diagnosed with lifelong, refractory juvenile myoclonic epilepsy.
I can still see the look on Channing’s face as we received the news from her doctor, as Channing processed the realization that her dreams and aspirations had been dashed, and all the work she’d put towards them had been for nothing. It was heartbreaking.
She’s since created new goals. She wants to give back to the epilepsy community and help further the search for a cure, and I couldn’t be more proud of her. But while she somehow finds the strength to thrive at work, every day is still a struggle to overcome seizures and side effects from all the meds. I dream of a time when she’s healthy and independent, and day after day isn’t lost to a disorder that, with enough support, can be defeated.
I want a cure for my daughter and the other 1.5 million Americans who don’t have seizure control. It’s the only real hope for changing the future for Channing and for generations to come.
CURE Epilepsy is leading the charge with groundbreaking research, but that research is only possible through support from people like you. Your gift will bring us closer to the day my daughter — and millions like her — can live free from seizures.
With gratitude,
