Broker Fee Ban Now in Effect: Know Your Rights

The FARE Act (Fairness in Apartment Rental Expenses), also known as the Broker Fee Ban (Local Law 119 of 2024), is officially in effect!


This new law prohibits brokers working for landlords from charging renters a broker fee. If a landlord hires a broker, they pay the fee, not the tenant. All fees must also be clearly listed in rental ads and disclosed to tenants before they sign any agreement.


With peak rental season approaching, this law comes at the perfect time to save renters money.


If you’re being charged an illegal broker fee, file a complaint with the NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection at on.nyc.gov/45HcTY7, and contact my office for assistance.

Free Helmet Giveaway – Sunday, June 22

10 AM to 1:30 PM on Kensington Plaza (Beverly Rd between Church Ave & E 2nd St)


We're teaming up with NYC DOT for a free bike helmet giveaway and fitting, plus a bike repair station for minor tune-ups.


Helmets are available while supplies last.

Adults 18 years and older must sign a waiver; children under 18 must have a parent or guardian present to sign on their behalf.

Community Bulletin

  • Starting tomorrow, Monday, 6/16, until Tuesday, 6/24 (no work on Thursday, 6/19 in observance of Juneteenth), the NYC Department of Transportation will mill a portion of the Brooklyn Queens Expressway from Atlantic Avenue to the Brooklyn Bridge, Queens-bound. As a result, only one lane will be available from 11 PM to 5 PM. Paving is scheduled to begin the week of 7/7, and we’ll follow up with additional notices of paving schedules as the work progresses.
