This past week was hell.

Trump deployed troops into California—including my son’s National Guard unit.

Senator Alex Padilla was violently shoved by DHS thugs—for asking why migrants were being denied lawyers.

Trump threw himself a fascist military parade in D.C. on his birthday.

This is what authoritarianism looks like in real time, and it’s personal for me.

36 years ago I proudly served in the U.S. Army. My son followed my footsteps and serves just as proudly in the California National Guard. Earlier this year, he put his civilian life on hold to battle wildfires outside Los Angeles—serving working-class communities in crisis.

That’s why he joined: to help people.

Now he’s being deployed to quell peaceful protests by a wannabe dictator who sees dissent as treason and protest as war.

As a father, I’m furious. As an American, I’m scared.

But as the founder of Daily Kos, I’m more resolved than ever.

This is what we were built for.

P.S. Trump deployed my son’s unit to the streets. He’s assaulting U.S. senators. He’s marching through the capital like a king. If you’ve ever wondered when it’s time to act—it’s now. Help us keep fighting. Donate now »
