John,
Congressional primaries are supposed to be about the people choosing their champions, not billionaires rigging the game from behind the scenes. But thanks to Super PACs, that’s exactly what’s happening. State Democratic Parties have stood by while billionaire-funded Super PACs like Fairshake PAC flood the airwaves, attack progressive candidates, and tip the scales.
Just last election cycle alone, crypto-backed Super PACs spent hundreds of millions meddling in Democratic primary races, helping oust champions like Katie Porter, Jamaal Bowman, and Cori Bush. Half of Fairshake PAC’s money came from billionaire crypto bosses who backed Trump in 2024. And still, they were allowed to steamroll Democratic primaries across the country.
Our report, Billionaires Buying Elections: They’ve Come to Collect, details how just 100 billionaire families spent $2.6 billion in the 2024 elections, two and a half times more than in 2020. And 80% of that money went to Super PACs.[1]
We’re demanding that all 50 State Democratic Parties take a stand and ban Super PACs from influencing Democratic primaries. They have the authority to do it. But do they have the political courage?
Tell every State Democratic Party to ban Super PACs from Democratic primaries.
Billionaires are bypassing campaign limits and laundering their influence through “independent expenditures.” It’s legalized corruption, and Democratic leaders are complicit when they do nothing.
Democratic leaders must decide whose side they’re on: grassroots voters, or crypto billionaires and corporate donors. Because they can’t support both.
If they’re on the side of the voters, they can’t allow billionaires to buy the candidates, the policies, and the party machinery. The 2010 Citizens United Supreme Court decision opened the floodgates to big money in politics and Democrats promised to fight back. But now, some are just fine swimming in billionaire cash.
We’re not asking for anything radical. We’re demanding the bare minimum: that Democratic primaries actually belong to Democratic voters. Not to the richest families in America. Not to right-wing billionaires with a crypto agenda. And certainly not to Super PACs exploiting every loophole money can buy.
Tell State Democratic Parties to ban Super PAC influence from their primaries before billionaires buy the next Congress, too.
Let’s rip the Democratic primaries out of the hands of billionaire Super PACs and return them to the voters where they belong.
