Dear John:

In the wake of this weekend's tragedy that took the lives of Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, and injured Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, the entire Minnesota delegation joined together in the following statement:

“Today we speak with one voice to express our outrage, grief, and condemnation of this horrible attack on public servants. There is no place in our democracy for politically-motivated violence. We are praying for John and Yvette’s recovery and we grieve the loss of Melissa and Mark with their family, colleagues, and Minnesotans across the state. We are grateful for law enforcement’s swift response to the situation and continued efforts.”

Restoring Responsible Spending to the Federal Government

As elected representatives, it is our job in Congress to make sure taxpayer dollars are being spend wisely, and that is exactly what we're doing. This week, House Republicans passed President Trump's recission package to cut $9.4 billion in government waste.

The Left would have you believe we are gutting critical programming with these cuts, but that is simply not the case. We are making moderate, common-sense cuts that put our federal spending in line with America's best interests without eliminating important programming. For example, NPR has been pushing a left-wing political agenda that is not aligned with the priorities and values of the American people.

Mr. Aderholt testified before the House Rules Committee as we discussed this package and I encourage you to watch our full discussion.

Secretary Bessent Testifies

This week, when U.S. Department of the Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent testified before the House Ways and Means Committee, I asked him what the Department is doing to help our farm communities and what will happen to them if we in the Legislative Branch fail to pass the One Big Beautiful Bill. I also asked him about 45Z guidance, and the Secretary committed to working with my team to finalize that guidance to provide certainty for the biofuels industry.

I am thankful for the Secretary's time, especially as he came to us straight from his trip to London to negotiate a trade agreement with China. You can watch my full exchange with him here.

Meeting the 7th District's Art Competition Winner

I was so glad to meet this year's Congressional Art Competition winner, Shoshannah, when she came out to Washington to see her work, Sunset Summer Nights, hanging in the U.S. Capitol. It will be hanging for a year, so if you plan to take a trip to the nation's capital, I encourage you to take a look! I look forward to seeing all that this young lady will accomplish.
