When I took over the Iowa Democratic Party as Chair in 2023, I had my work cut out for me. After a brutal cycle, IDP was thousands of dollars in debt and didn’t have a clear strategy or the staff to execute it. I knew I was in for a big challenge, but like so many of you, I knew I had to do what I could to change things for the better.
During my first term, it was my goal to rebuild IDP from the ground up. I pushed to grow our presence across the state, and as a result, settled our debt, hired a full-time Finance, Communications, and Data team, and built a coalition ready to create positive change.
Why am I telling you this? Because it paid off.
Now, IDP is in a position to help our party win elections again. With our Forward: Victory 2026 plan, we’re communicating and organizing across Iowa to win the Governor’s race, replace Joni Ernst in the U.S. Senate, and flip our Congressional House districts.
For the first time in a long time, we have the capability and grit to get it done.
IDP has an active county party in every county in the state, something we haven’t had in the past five years. We’re hosting data trainings twice a month to help activists use the tools available to them to reach as many folks as possible. We’re connecting with communities, sharing personal stories, and recruiting volunteers to help grow capacity like never before.
We are building what I like to call a permanent campaign. Not a temporary solution to help us get by in 2026, but an organization that creates long-lasting, sustainable change, and spreads Democratic values for years to come.
As the only organization working to ensure all Democrats’ success up and down the ballot in Iowa, IDP is striving to make sure we see electoral results. Your grassroots support is critical to helping us obtain the resources we need to turn out voters at the ballot box.
To put it quite simply, winning isn’t possible without a strong and effective IDP, and IDP can't be strong and effective without you.
