Good morning!

I hope that everyone is waking up this morning free from damage and danger.

I was reading an article first thing that many cities were hit hard during last night's protests, with violence, destruction, fire, and arrests. Fortunately, my city was not one of them - the protests where we live remained peaceful and there are no reports of damage in the local news coverage.

My daughter was at work downtown (though I had urged her to call in sick), and she said that she saw a lot of people and heard a lot of shouting, but there was no violence on her side of the square. I was very relieved when she let me know she was home from work, however.

Unfortunately, there were many places where things got bad, and potentially, in Minnesota, the murders of a member of the state Congress and her husband, and the attempted murder of another congressional couple, may be tied to the day of the protests.

On a more positive note, I tuned in to the live stream of the military parade in Washington, DC, and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. It was like an American military history museum moving through the streets, with tons of informative narration. As a history junkie, I absolutely love learning more about the past.

We have all our things in the new place, but are still living amongst the boxes. I've always been one to unpack quickly, and it's a challenge having to pace myself.

It's very quiet here, which I love, and sooooo accessible. It is such a pleasure to be able to do more independently. You forget how good it feels to be able to easily get to your washer and dryer or bring in your groceries. I've had many "new" reclaimed experiences in the past week that most people consider everyday normal things to do. I'm really delighted to be here.

The best way to be ecstatically happy with simple things is to lose them for a while and get them back. I'm going to strive to remember how very grateful I am for the ability to do things like laundry and cooking and going to the store. I hope not to see these things as unpleasant chores but as rewarding exercises in independence.

I even got back to writing fiction - you can check out the plight of Kate and Ariel here!

Now, I'm just hoping that America can stay out of the fight between Iran and Israel...

Have a wonderful weekend and a great week ahead.

Stay safe.

Be happy.

Love,

Daisy
