Governor Walz Orders Flags at Half-Staff to Honor House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman
[ST. PAUL, MN] – Governor Tim Walz has ordered all United States and Minnesota flags to fly at half-staff at all state buildings in the State of Minnesota immediately, in honor and remembrance of House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman.
*“Today Minnesota lost a great leader. A formidable public servant and a fixture of the state Capitol, Melissa Hortman woke up every day determined to make our state a better place,” *said Governor Walz.* “She served the people of Minnesota with grace, compassion, and tirelessness. Minnesota’s thoughts are with her loved ones.”*
Individuals, businesses, and other organizations are also encouraged to join in lowering their flags.

Flags at Half-Staff
"In keeping with appropriate flag etiquette and U.S. Code, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz may order the state flag to be flown at half-staff under very limited circumstances. He may also order the national flag to be flown at half-staff on state property only. A state flag on state property is required by law to be flown at half-staff if the national flag is flown at half-staff."
