John,
Today is Flag Day -- a time to reflect on what our flag truly represents: freedom, service, and democracy.
It’s also the 250th anniversary of the United States Army. For two and a half centuries, American soldiers have defended our nation with courage and distinction. We honor them -- and we will always stand with those who wear the uniform.
It also happens to be Donald Trump’s 79th birthday.
Trump is marking the occasion with a $45 million military parade. While it may be framed as a tribute, let’s be honest -- this is largely a waste of taxpayer money and a political stunt dressed up in uniforms and flags.
While Trump parades tanks for attention, veterans are still waiting for care, families are struggling with housing, and Marines are being deployed in Los Angeles to assist with immigration raids. That’s not just dangerous -- it’s a deeply troubling politicization of our armed forces. I’ve demanded answers from the Department of Defense because this crosses a line that should never be crossed.
We love our flag. We support our troops. But we do not love monarchy.
As Benjamin Franklin said: “We have a Republic -- if we can keep it.”
Keeping it means pushing back against anyone who tries to hijack our democracy for personal gain. That’s what I’m doing every day in Congress. But I can’t do it alone.
We’re facing a MAGA‑backed opponent, and the same machine that’s funding Trump is pouring millions into defeating Democrats like me. Can you chip in $3 before our end‑of‑quarter deadline to help us push back against authoritarianism and defend our Republic?
