ENFORCING OUR IMMIGRATION LAWS

I strongly believe that the federal government must enforce our immigration laws, secure our border, and restore the rule of law in our country. While Americans have a First Amendment right to express their own beliefs about our immigration policies, they do not have a right to commit violence, assault or obstruct law enforcement officers, or damage property. Those actions are crimes and individuals committing those acts should be held accountable under the law.

Our federal immigration enforcement officers have prioritized the removal of criminal illegal immigrants. According to the Department of Homeland Security, those arrested include illegal immigrants with a criminal history, including those with a conviction for transport of a controlled substance, lewd action with a child, battery, grand theft and DUI.

SUPPORTING OUR MILITARY

Image

Keeping Americans safe amidst mounting national security threats around the world requires a significant and multi-faceted investment in our military. As Chairman of the House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, I have the privilege and responsibility of working with my colleagues to provide the annual funding for the Defense Department and other national security agencies. Earlier this week, the House Appropriations Committee approved the Fiscal Year 2026 Defense Appropriations Bill that I crafted with my Subcommittee colleagues.

Here are a few highlights from the bill:

  • Includes an increase of 3.8% in basic pay for all military personnel effective January 1, 2026, while continuing historic pay increases enacted in Fiscal Year 2025 for junior enlisted servicemembers.
  • Provides $1.1 billion for counter drug programs, including increased funding for the National Guard Counterdrug Program.
  • Prioritizes fiscal sanity and eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse through codifying both the Department’s cooperation with DOGE and streamlined functions and management improvements at the Pentagon.

America’s ports are essential gateways for trade and commerce. We cannot jeopardize America’s economic and national security by allowing foreign adversaries, like China, Russia, North Korea and Iran, to own and operate port infrastructure. Earlier this week, the House of Representatives passed my bipartisan bill, the Secure Our Ports Act (H.R. 252), to strengthen our national security by prohibiting certain foreign entities, including state-owned enterprises of China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran, from entering into contracts for the ownership, leasing, or operation of U.S. port facilities that are subject to security plans.

This year marks the 250th Anniversary of the U.S. Army. I want to join all Americans in thanking the soldiers who have served and sacrificed to protect our liberties and freedom. May God Bless the U.S. Army!
