When Donald Trump decided to organize a military parade for his birthday today, I was reminded of a passage from one of my favorite poems by Langston Hughes, Let America Be America Again:

Let America be the dream the dreamers dreamed—
Let it be that great strong land of love
Where never kings connive nor tyrants scheme
That any man be crushed by one above.

While Trump throws himself a birthday parade worth over $25 million in taxpayer money, he’s prioritized cutting essential government services in healthcare, education, and more with the sole purpose of lining his pockets and the pockets of the billionaires in his inner circle. His intent is to crush those below him in favor of his own self-interest.

Many of you may be participating in one of the many No Kings day protests around the country today, and I want you to know that I stand with you. I work every day in Congress to fight back, but this is a moment that requires all of us to stand together.

That’s why I’m calling on all of us to raise our voices and let America be the dream that dreamers dreamed. Will you join me in this fight by chipping in $10 before my campaign’s mid-month deadline tomorrow?
