John, I’m Delia Ramirez — U.S. Representative from Illinois.
On Thursday, federal agents assaulted and handcuffed my colleague, Senator Alex Padilla, for attending a press briefing in Los Angeles with Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and attempting to ask her a question.
It’s not just the violence by ICE and federal agents, or the eagerness to bully and manhandle anyone who tries to hold them accountable, that sickens me.
It’s the fact that they tried to intimidate the person FILMING it. Because they don’t want us to bear witness to how often they violate due process.
At a House Oversight Committee hearing just moments after Senator Padilla was handcuffed, I made sure to air the shocking footage in the hearing room itself so that the entire committee and the American public could see:
The evidence is right in front of us: the Trump administration is weaponizing the government AND the military against citizens and politicians alike, to exert control and suppress dissent. At a moment like this, it’s on all of us to speak up even more.
Let’s show them we won’t be bullied into silence. Please, add your name today and join me and the Working Families Party in demanding an end to workplace ICE raids and violent escalations.

This administration’s violence and attempts to provoke chaos are no accident — they're deliberate policy choices. They’ve now gone after a mayor, a U.S. Senator, a national labor leader, and sent the military after hundreds of peaceful protesters just this week alone.
But I refuse to let that stop me. Because the last time I checked, we don't live in a dictatorship or a monarchy. Trump's will is NOT the guiding doctrine of our nation, and our country is not a playground for his twisted authoritarian fantasies.
That’s why we cannot buckle or yield when Trump or anyone else tries to silence us. We need to get even louder.
Add your name today and join me and the Working Families Party in demanding an end to workplace ICE raids and their violent escalations in our communities.
In solidarity,
Rep. Delia Ramirez
